Day 2 - Middle Race (Merthyr Mawr)

Location:

Merthyr Mawr, Bridgend CF32 0PA

Terrain:

Merthyr Mawr is an intricate sand dune system providing technical yet runnable orienteering. It is located on the South Wales coastline and provides a blend of open dunes and covered wooded sections. It is in Penybont ar Ogwr, located near the historic market town of Bridgend and situated between Porthcawl (to the West), and Ogmore-by-Sea to the East.  It consists of 840 acres of beautiful sand dunes, most notably incorporating the Big Dipper, the highest dune in Wales.

Merthyr Mawr was the site of the British Night Championships in 2018, and we are looking forward to a return of high-level orienteering in the area.
