Orienteering before the JK
Come to South Wales for the days leading up to the JK and you will find plenty to do, and some orienteering too! The programme so far is:
Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th April - Training on Mynydd Llangatwg: (Map)
This is being organised by the Welsh Junior Orienteering Squad. The area is adjacent to the Day 3 area, Mynydd Llangynidr, and is highly relevant for both Day 2 & Day 3. A chance to practise the techniques you will need over the following few days, or just to stretch your legs after or during your journey in some nice terrain with spectacular views.
Numbered but blank control sites - no punches or SI Units - will be out in the terrain from 10:00 on Wednesday 16th to 19:00 on Thursday 17th April.
Training maps including suggested courses, control descriptions, details of parking etc. should ideally be booked and paid for in advance via Fabian 4 by Tuesday 8th April. Cost £3 per map: packs will be sent out by first class post on Saturday 12th April - £1. Or they can be collected at either the BOK Trot on Sunday 13th April (see above), or the Wednesday 16th April evening on Clydach Terrace (see below).
For those for whom neither option is convenient - for example those from abroad who may not want things posted, and want to train during the day on Wednesday, or may not be arriving until Thursday - it should be possible to make special arrangements for collecting the maps. Please include a comment under "special request" when entering on Fabian 4.
A limited number of maps will also be available for purchase at these two events - Cost £4 per map
Fabian4 entry procedure note: If you wish to order training maps without entering the Clydach Terrace event, then delete all competitors via the "Delete?" column when you reach step 3 (not before) and select the number of training packs you wish to order in the event options section.
Wednesday April 16th 2014 - Level C Evening Event at Clydach Terrace (Map) (Terrain map)
Also organised by the Welsh Junior Orienteering Squad, this will be a level C competition held on a complex open area of old mining spoil tips. About 5 miles distant from the relay area and very similar to it.
Final Details: are now available here (11/04/2014).
